The court heard the 18-year-old had gone into the restaurant and ordered £13.10 worth of food.
When it was placed before him, he then got up and left the restaurant without paying.
Pleading guilty to the charge, Ford shouted that he had "no remorse about it".
In mitigation, his advocate Bill LaHive said the incident was a "cry for help" as Ford had revealed in interview he never had any intention of eating or paying for the food.
He said Ford had refused to co-operate with the probation service, adding "he simply has it in his mind that he wants to go to prison."
Ford made a series of increasingly emotional outbursts from the dock, shouting "no bail, just jail".
At one point, wiping away a steady stream of tears, he cried that if nobody cared about him then why should he care about himself.
However, chair of the bench Wendy Casper reminded Ford that court was "not a hotel reception" adding "we don't book you into prison as and when you request".
When she ordered him to pay a £75 fine, £15 victim surcharge, £45 costs and £13.10 in compensation, Ford shouted "I'm not paying".
Magistrates explained they were making an attachment to his benefits so it would be taken over a period of weeks.
As Ford was led away he began to cry and shouted "I'll go out and commit more crime.
Watch me commit more offences. I'm off to do a robbery now."
AN 18-year-old man was arrested yesterday afternoon in St Levan Road, Devonport, on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
