There may be a world crisis ahead all right, but it's probably not directly in the direction of Dartington.
Some politically conscious joker with an eye on the current world stage has managed to hijack a Devon County Council road sign to give unwary drivers this 'WAKE UP' call.
The 10ft high sign is on the road from the old bridge at Staverton just before its junction with the A384 near Huxhams Cross.
The sign should say 'Give Way' but a sign-writing 'artist' has given it a lick of paint and added his, or her, own message.
Devon County Council, which is responsible for highway signs, is looking into what could be described as a vandal attack. A spokesman said the sign would be removed from the roadside as soon as possible. He added: "We weren't aware of it until you told us about it, but it sounds like it shouldn't be there."
The sign is close to Dartington College, where other roadside artists recently took a paint pot to direction signs.
