Police officer denies killing Ian Tomlinson

A police officer charged with the manslaughter of the newspaper vendor Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests has pleaded not guilty.
During the 25-minute plea and directions hearing on Monday at Southwark crown court, London, PC Simon Harwood was asked to respond to charges that on 1 April 2009 he unlawfully killed Tomlinson.
Harwood's plea of not guilty raised a small cry from members of Tomlinson's family seated in the public gallery.
Tomlinson, 47, died after falling to the ground during G20 demonstrations in London in 2009.
Harwood's wife, Helen, was in court for the hearing.
Judge Mr Justice Cooke listed Harwood's trial for 13 June 2012 at Southwark crown court. The trial is expected to last four to five weeks.
